The Nikon 28-300mm is a very versatile and high quality lens. But not light. Given the 28-300mm, plus a Nikon Z 7II camera, FTZ adapter, protective filter, leather camera half-case, leather camera strap, silicone viewfinder eyepiece, and (two) memory cards, the weight adds up to 4 pounds 1.5 ounces or 1.856 kg. Don’t be shocked by this weight, the 28-300mm is a f/3.5 – f/5.6 VR lens and that much light gathering power in a lens calls for heavier lens elements.
By the way, I always leave this lens’ VR switch ON when it is attached to my Nikon Z7II using a FTZ adapter EXCEPT if I am using a tripod, then I turn the VR lens switch OFF. A VR lens switch, if present, is controlling for both lens and Z camera.
Presently, the Nikon F mount 28-300mm VR has been discontinued but is available in the used market and I suspect it will be for some time. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens seems to be the closest we may come presently but I suspect a full 28-300mm Z lens is on the horizon. Perhaps as an aftermarket lens?

Below I have placed images of my Zinnia garden in the fall taken with the Nikon 28-300mm zoom lens. This is a popular lens that may be adapted to Z cameras using the FTZ II adapter. All images were sharpened using Topaz Sharpen AI (batch process). The first eight images were taken with the Nikon Z 7II, the remainder using the Nikon Z 50 camera. Ed Ruth photography teacher.
